I really would like to share with you a wonderful hotel, the best we have found in Sardinia, and we visit often. It is called the Nascar Hotel in Santa Maria Navarrese and despite the silly name it is fantastic.
So friendly, warm and wonderful and very near to some of the very best beaches in Sardinia that you mention. In fact, this is a perfect alternative to Cala Gonone in that all the same beaches are very near too.
Santa Maria Navarrese is a delightful little fishing town on the east coast, which as you mention is the least touristed and certainly most unspoiled part of the island.
The Nascar Hotel is one of the oldest buildings in the town but do ask for a room with a view though. The view of the Gulf of Orosei is one of the loveliest views in Sardinia. The hotel will help you with all sorts of excursions, the trip to the nearby national park is well worthwhile doing.
A lovely restaurant with all the best local Sardinian dishes just rounds of the whole experience. Do try to visit Andrew.
Andrew's reply: Santa Maria Navarrese is lovely as you say and is a great base to explore the best beaches on Sardinia's east coast. I have heard good things about the Nascar Hotel from a number of people and will make a point of visiting. Thank you for sharing.
