The Best Italian Cook Book?

If you want to learn to cook real Italian style and not the faux Italian cooking that is the subject of so many books, then Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking is a book you need to read. I really enjoy the recipes for Polenta, meatballs and squid all of which are typical of the area around Marcella's home in Venice.

Andrew's reply: Indeed, this is a great book and one I feature on my list of essential Italian cookery books.

Silver Spoon - The Classic of Italian Cuisine

The Silver Spoon has over 1000 pages of Italian recipes, recently translated from Italian into several languages. I also lived several years in Italy (Milano), and these recipes really take me back. I can't believe this is not on your list.

Andrew's Reply:

The Silver Spoon is indeed one of the all-time classics of Italian cuisine and a fantastic book with some really wonderful recipes.

In fact, I did feature it when I first started the site, but a lot of my American visitors complained about many of the ingredients not being available in the USA, and because many of my visitors come from the USA, I have tried to feature mainly books with recipes that are easy to reproduce with the ingredients available in the USA.

I do agree, though, that for anyone who really wants to really understand Italian cuisine, the Silver Spoon is a definite must.

Looking for Romance in Sardinia?

by Phil

A Deal with a Stranger

There are not many romantic contemporary novels set in Sardinia, and certainly not many written in English. A Deal with a Stranger tells the story of Clara, a 25 year-old Sardinian girl, who tries to win back the boyfriend who left her.

At first it may seem like a typical love story, but there are many surprises in store, and unexpected turns, which keep the reader hooked and unable to put the book down.

The author is from Sardinia and clearly very passionate about her land, culture and traditions; the characters feel authentic and you are naturally drawn to them and really care about what happens to them.

It’s the perfect book to take on holiday with you or read at home while you relax. And if you haven’t been to Sardinia yet, this book will definitely inspire you to visit this beautiful Mediterranean island.

Andrew's reply Thank you Phil for the review. I have not read this book, so I can't personally recommend it, but I have heard great things about it.

Let's face it romance and Sardinia go together wonderfully well so I am sure this book is a great read from an Italian author who is beginning to earn a very good reputation - both in Italy and the UK/USA.
